▸ About Volt in Thailand

Compiled from the Thai distributor's own site, launch press and government records. Every claim carries a source, and anything we could not verify is marked [unverified] rather than guessed · ~19 min read

At a glance

  • Distributor: EV Primus Co., Ltd. (บริษัท อีวี ไพรมัส จำกัด), described as Thailand's first multi-brand EV distributor and the official Thai distributor of DFSK and SERES (Thaipost, 2022-08-05, Headlightmag, Thansettakij).
  • Entered Thailand: 2022-08-04. Online reservations for the first 1,000 units opened at 14:59 that day through voltthailand.com and Facebook @VoltCityEV (Thaipost, Thansettakij, PPTV).
  • First models launched: FOR-TWO (3-door, 2-seat) and FOR-FOUR (5-door, 4-seat), both launched the same day.
  • Models on sale (as of 2026-11-03): FOR-TWO and FOR-FOUR — current sale status [unverified], see the scope note above.
  • Dealers: 28 nationwide at launch, shared with EV Primus's other brands (Thaipost, Autolifethailand).
  • Launch price band: ฿325,000 – ฿415,000 (FOR-TWO Classic to FOR-FOUR Premium) (Autolifethailand, 9carthai). Current price band [unverified].
  • Import: CBU from China — the first lot was shipped from Shanghai to Laem Chabang in September 2022 (Autolifethailand, 2022-09-19, Brandinside, 2022-08-17). A Thai assembly plant was planned for 2023; whether it was built is [unverified], and no source says any Volt was assembled in Thailand.

The VOLT City EV is a two-body-style microcar positioned for city use or as a household's second car. Brandinside says features were cut to suit that role and names one: no fast charging. It credits the price to the import-duty exemption on Chinese-built cars (Brandinside). The first 1,000 online reservations were taken in under 24 hours (Sanook, 2022-08-24, Autolifethailand, 2022-09-19). Official DLT data shows 463 first registrations from June 2023 to December 2025 in our capture. That is fewer than the Wuling Air EV, the other microcar EV Primus sells: at least 883 Air EV registrations in the same capture.

Thai spelling. 9carthai writes the brand โวล์ต and the product โวล์ต ซิตี้ อีวี ("VOLT City EV") (9carthai). Every other source consulted writes "VOLT" in Latin script. No Thai spelling of FOR-TWO / FOR-FOUR was found.

Distribution & business

EV Primus Co., Ltd. presents itself as Thailand's first multi-brand EV distributor. At the Volt launch it already distributed DFSK and SERES (Thaipost, Headlightmag) and later took on Wuling (Air EV from 2023-07-03; see (พิทยา ธนาดำรงศักดิ์), is quoted as managing director (Thaipost, Thansettakij, Brandinside) and as chairman (Autolifethailand, 2022-09-19). PPTV spells his first name "Wittaya"; the other four sources say Pitaya.

The car's origin. The City EV was developed with three Chinese companies — Dongfeng Motor, Zhengzhou Nissan and Beijing Hongrui Automotive Technology (Headlightmag, Thaipost). The shipping report names the manufacturer as Dongfeng Hongrui Xiaohu (Autolifethailand, 2022-09-19). 9carthai's launch piece attributes the car to "DFSK (Dongfeng Xiaokang)" (9carthai) — the Chinese base-model name is [unverified].

Import and planned local assembly. The first 1,000 units were imported from China (PPTV); Brandinside says import duty was waived, which made the price possible (Brandinside). EV Primus announced a factory at Gateway Industrial Estate, Chachoengsao (20 rai, more than ฿400 million) to start production in late 2023, with 4,000 units a year of capacity for domestic sale and export (Brandinside; PPTV gives the site, about ฿400 million and locally assembled cars "within 2023", but no capacity). No source found confirms the plant opened or that any Volt was built in Thailand [unverified]. Every source consulted describes the cars as imported from China.

Deliveries. Thansettakij said deliveries would start in September 2022 (Thansettakij). The first lot (100 of a 200-car batch) left Shanghai for Laem Chabang in mid-September 2022, due by 30 September, with first handovers expected in October 2022 and all 1,000 pre-sold cars to be delivered within 2022 (Autolifethailand, 2022-09-19). The first "VOLT"-labelled rows in the DLT first-registration data are from June 2023. Our capture is missing the September and October 2022 files, and the November 2022 – May 2023 files contain no VOLT row, so the actual delivery start is [unverified].

Targets. 1,000 units in 2022 (Thaipost); 5,000 units and about ฿2 billion of sales in 2023 (Brandinside) — PPTV reported about 3,000 units for 2023 (PPTV). Launch marketing budget ฿40 million (Brandinside). Actual captured registrations: 463 in total (see below).

Financing at launch. Krungsri Auto "EXCLUSIVE DEAL": 0–5% down, up to 84 months, from about ฿3,000–3,600 a month (Thaipost, Thansettakij, PPTV). Insurance partner Viriyah (Sanook).

Showrooms

Name Address Opened Type
EV Primus dealer network (28 dealers) Nationwide; individual sites not published in any source consulted [unverified] by 2022-08 Multi-brand dealers (DFSK / SERES / VOLT)

Sources: Thaipost, Autolifethailand. EV Primus planned 35 service centres nationwide by 2023 and a multi-brand EV showroom selling cars from ฿300,000 to ฿3 million (Brandinside) — outcome [unverified].

Service centers

Name Address Authorized for Notes
EV Primus Rangsit hub ~10 rai, Rangsit (Pathum Thani) — exact address [unverified] training, spare-parts distribution, PDI & service Part of an investment of more than ฿80 million in Thailand (Autolifethailand)

Charging network partners

None announced. The City EV charges on AC only and needs no wallbox — a full charge from a standard household socket takes about 6 hours and costs about ฿66 (Thaipost, Thansettakij). Home-charging partner E-Volt surveyed buyers' homes (Autolifethailand, 2022-09-19); Premium buyers could buy the E-Volt Wallbox for ฿30,000 instead of ฿50,000 (Autolifethailand) — Headlightmag describes the same offer as a ฿20,000 discount (Headlightmag).

Warranty terms

Item Classic Premium ("PREMIUM DEAL") Source
Vehicle 3 years / 80,000 km 5 years / 120,000 km ◐ Headlightmag, Autolifethailand
HV battery [unverified] 5 years / 120,000 km ◐ Thaipost, Thansettakij, Sanook
Free maintenance — 2 years all five launch sources
Emergency assistance + on-site emergency charging — 1 year (Autolifethailand) or 2 years (Thaipost, Thansettakij, Sanook) [unverified]
Insurance — 1 year Class 1, free (Thaipost, Thansettakij and Sanook: only with Krungsri Auto financing) as above

Conflict: the 5-year / 120,000 km cover is a vehicle warranty in Headlightmag and Autolifethailand and a battery warranty in Thaipost, Thansettakij and Sanook. Both readings are recorded; neither is confirmed by an official document.

Pricing and the "PREMIUM DEAL" (both models)

Each body style launched in two versions (Autolifethailand, 9carthai, 2022-08-06, Headlightmag):

Variant Launch price 2022-08-04 After 2022-08-24
FOR-TWO Classic ฿325,000 [unverified]
FOR-TWO Premium ฿355,000 ฿365,000 ◐
FOR-FOUR Classic ฿385,000 [unverified]
FOR-FOUR Premium ฿415,000 ฿425,000 ◐
  • Classic prices: ฿325,000 / ฿385,000 in Autolifethailand, 9carthai (2022-08-06 and 2024-01-03), Thaipost, Thansettakij and PPTV. Headlightmag's tables give the FOR-FOUR Classic as ฿380,000 — an outlier against five sources.
  • Premium prices: ฿355,000 / ฿415,000 in Autolifethailand and 9carthai; Sanook gives both as the "ราคาเดิม" (old price); Brandinside quotes the range ฿325,000–415,000. Headlightmag's tables say ฿420,000 for the FOR-FOUR TOP, although its own price-article headline says "325,000 – 415,000 บาท". Headlightmag calls the Premium "TOP".
  • The 2022-08-24 increase: after the first 1,000 online reservations sold out in under 24 hours, both models rose ฿10,000 from the introductory price: FOR-TWO "ราคาเดิม 355,000 บาท" → "ราคาใหม่ 365,000 บาท", FOR-FOUR ฿415,000 → ฿425,000, and "ราคาใหม่ทั้ง 2 รุ่น มาพร้อม แพ็กเกจ PREMIUM DEAL" (Sanook, 2022-08-24). Sanook names no variant. The old prices match the Premium launch prices, so the rise is read as a Premium price ◐. The article also labels its second line "FOR-TWO", evidently a typo for FOR-FOUR, since the headline covers both models. The effective date is not stated, so the article date is used. Autolifethailand's price article, updated 2023-06-26, still lists the four launch prices. Sanook repeats ฿365,000 / ฿425,000 in December 2023 (Sanook, 2023-12-14). One outlet only ◐ — recorded as a price-history point, not as a current price. What happened to the Classic price after the increase is [unverified]; 9carthai still listed ฿325,000 / ฿385,000 on 2024-01-03 (9carthai).
  • Current price (2026-11-03): [unverified]. No official or two-outlet price after 2022 was found. PCauto lists the 2023 FOR-FOUR at ฿425,000–525,000 (pcauto); PCauto is an aggregator, a lead only.

What the PREMIUM DEAL adds (bundle "worth over ฿100,000"; Thaipost ties it to the first 1,000 online reservations) (Autolifethailand, Thaipost, Thansettakij):

  1. Top-trim equipment: LED headlamps and taillamps, 7″ double-screen display, multifunction steering wheel
  2. 5-year / 120,000 km warranty (vehicle or battery — see Warranty terms)
  3. 2 years' free maintenance
  4. Emergency assistance + on-site emergency charging (1 or 2 years)
  5. 1 year Class 1 insurance (Krungsri Auto financing only, per Thaipost)
  6. Home electrical inspection worth ฿5,000
  7. E-Volt Wallbox at ฿30,000 instead of ฿50,000

Thaipost and Thansettakij describe items 1–6 as free for the first 1,000 online bookers at the ฿325,000 / ฿385,000 starting prices, while Autolifethailand, Headlightmag and 9carthai price the Premium separately at ฿355,000 / ฿415,000. Sanook's "old price ฿355,000 / ฿415,000" supports

FOR-TWO — 3-door, 2-seat electric microcar

The shorter, cheaper body: 2.92 m long on a 1.98 m wheelbase, two seats, 11.8 kWh LFP battery, rear motor.

Lineage & platform

Sales / market position

DLT first registrations (Department of Land Transport open data, dataset สถิติจำนวนรถจดทะเบียนครั้งแรก, brand label VOLT, class รถยนต์นั่งส่วนบุคคลไม่เกิน 7 คน; read from our capture of the DLT open-data API (monthly files Jan 2022 – Jan 2026) on 2026-11-03 — gdcatalog.dlt.go.th):

Year VOLT FOR FOUR VOLT FOR TWO
2023 (Jun–Dec) 321 73
2024 45 4
2025 19 1
Jan 2026 0 0
Total 385 78

Our capture is missing the Sep–Oct 2022, Jun 2024, Sep 2024 and Nov 2024 files, and the December 2023 file looks like a copy of December 2022 (same 1,299 rows, same Honda City counts, no VOLT row), so these totals are lower bounds. Monthly detail: FOR-FOUR 33, 111, 85, 40, 29, 23 (Jun–Nov 2023); 17, 6, 3, 4, 3, 4, 5, 3 (Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, May, Jul, Aug, Dec 2024); 2, 2, 2, 5, 1, 1, 2, 2, 1, 1 (Jan, Feb, Apr, May, Jun, Jul, Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec 2025). FOR-TWO 19, 35, 12, 1, 3, 3 (Jun–Nov 2023); 3, 1 (Jan, Feb 2024); 1 (Mar 2025).

The curve — a mid-2023 peak, then a trickle — looks like the first shipments selling down, but no source states that imports stopped.
