At a glance
- Brand architecture (TH): Changan Auto operates three
distinct retail brands in Thailand —
Changan(mainstream; Lumin only as of May 2026),Deepal(mid-market BEV + REEV; S05 / S07 / L07 / E07 / Hunter K50), andAvatr(premium; 11 / 07 / 12-on-roadmap). The Changan parent is the same legal entity for all three brands at the manufacturing level (shared Rayong plant) but the retail experience is fragmented — see "Brand architecture decision" below. - Thailand entry: Deepal S07 + L07 unveiled at the 40th Thailand International Motor Expo on 2023-11-29 (Bangkok) — Thailand's first overseas market for the Deepal brand (CnEVPost — 2023-11-30; Global Changan — Southeast Asia Debut). 6,452 pre-orders in the first 45 hours.
- Plant: Changan Rayong — at WHA Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate 4, Pluak Daeng district, Rayong (EEC). Investment ฿9.8–10 billion (~US $285–300 m). Site area ~250 rai (~400,000 m²). BOI approval 2023-10-11. Groundbreaking November 2023. Phase-1 production inaugurated 2025-05-16 with the first locally-assembled vehicle — a Deepal S05 RHD — rolling off the line. Phase-1 capacity 100,000 units/year; Phase-2 target 200,000 units/year (planned 2026). First overseas plant in Changan Auto history. - Deepal L07 — 66.8 kWh sedan (L07 + L07 S budget trim)
- Deepal E07 — 89.98 kWh SUV / pickup transformer (2 BEV trims)
- Avatr 11 — 90.38 / 116.79 kWh premium SUV coupé (Standard / Long Range / Royal Edition)
- Avatr 07 — 82.14 kWh SUV (RWD + AWD, launched at Motor Expo 2025)
- Total BEV trims documented (May 2026): ~15 across 3 brands.
- Total BEV price band (May 2026): ฿399,000 (Lumin promo) – ฿2,899,000 (Avatr 11 Royal Edition).
- Showrooms: ~53 retail locations as of early 2026 (Changan-brand + Deepal combined); original 2024 target was 100 dealers by end-2025 — slower rollout
[unverified — count from secondary source; 60-by-end-2024 / 100-by-end-2025 plan was in Just-Auto / Bangkok Post]. Avatr operates separately under Infinite Automobile with 8+ showrooms (Siam Paragon, Rama 3 flagship, Vibhavadi, Kanchanaphisek, Hat Yai, Phuket, Chiang Mai, +). - 2024 sales: Changan Auto delivered ~14,000 vehicles in Thailand cumulative through end-2024, missing its 15,000–18,000 unit target — attributed to local economic slowdown (Global Changan — Motor Expo 2025).
- 2025 performance: Deepal S05 (first made-in-Thailand model) was the #1 EV SUV by registrations in March + April 2025 (consecutive). Avatr crossed 1,000 deliveries in TH by November 2025 (Thairath EN — Avatr 1,000 deliveries).
- Lead executive (SEA): Changan SEA leadership signed under Changan Auto Southeast Asia Co., Ltd. registered at WHA ESIE 4, Pluak Daeng, Rayong (D&B company profile).
Changan-group occupies a unique multi-brand position in Thailand's EV market: it is the only Chinese OEM operating three distinct retail brands (Changan / Deepal / Avatr) under one Thai manufacturing umbrella, simultaneously competing in the sub-฿500k city-EV segment (Lumin), the volume ฿800k–฿1.5m SUV segment (Deepal S05/S07/L07/E07) and the ฿2m+ luxury segment (Avatr 11/07). The Rayong plant — Changan's first overseas factory — has rapidly become a regional RHD export hub, with the first batch of made-in-Thailand Deepal S05s shipping to Europe in December 2025 (CnEVPost — Europe export 2025-12-27). The aggressive 2025 price-cut on Deepal S07 (฿1,399,000 → ฿1,099,000, −21 %) and Lumin (฿479,000 → ฿399,000 at Motor Show 2026) mirrors the broader China-EV price war landing in Thailand.
Brand architecture decision (evth)
Decision: evth treats Changan + Deepal + Avatr as THREE separate
brands (changan, deepal, avatr) — distinct brands rows,
distinct slugs, distinct brand pages.
Why
The same question for GAC was resolved as one brand aion
containing the Hyptec sub-line. The Changan case lands the other
way for three load-bearing reasons:
- Retail experience is fully separated in Thailand. Avatr
has its own distributor (Infinite Automobile / AAS Group),
its own showroom network (8+ stand-alone "AVATR by Infinite
Automobile" showrooms at Siam Paragon, Rama 3 flagship,
Vibhavadi, Kanchanaphisek, Hat Yai, Phuket, Chiang Mai), its
own website (
avatr.co.th+avatrthailand.com), and its own marketing — a Thai consumer shopping for an Avatr 11 will not see Deepal or Changan-brand models in the same showroom. (Nation Thailand — Rama 3 flagship; avatrthailand.com; AAS Auto Service press) - Pricing tiers and competitive frame don't overlap. Lumin (฿399k–฿499k) competes with the BYD Dolphin Mini / GWM Ora 03; Deepal (฿799k–฿2.1m) competes with BYD Atto 3 / MG ZS EV / Aion Y Plus; Avatr (฿1.66m–฿2.9m) competes with Tesla Model Y Performance / BMW iX1 / Hyptec HT. A single brand page would span an order-of-magnitude price range with no shared model positioning — actively unhelpful for comparison shoppers.
- Thai press treats them as separate brands. Autolifethailand, Headlightmag, AutoStation, MarkLines and Paultan all run stand-alone "Deepal launches X" or "Avatr launches Y" headlines without parent-brand prefix in the headline — the Thai media-mention pattern is "Deepal S07", not "Changan Deepal S07". (AutoStation — Avatr 07 debut; AutoStation — Deepal S07 MY2025; Esquire TH — Avatr 07 + Deepal S05)
Contrast with GAC Aion (one-brand) — why this is different
GAC Aion in TH puts Aion + Hyptec in the same dealer GAC showrooms (Gold Integrate, V Group, Harmony) sharing the same service network. Avatr explicitly does NOT share showrooms with Changan-brand or Deepal in Thailand — Infinite Automobile is a different legal entity (AAS Group subsidiary) than Changan Auto Southeast Asia. The architectural test "would a Thai consumer walking into the showroom see both brands' models?" returns "yes" for Aion/Hyptec but "no" for Changan/Avatr.
Cross-brand linking in evth
The three brands carry the same parent_company: "Changan Automobile" value and we surface a "Other Changan-group brands"
section on each brand page (similar to how Tesla doesn't have a
sibling-brand row, but Volvo / Polestar / Zeekr will eventually
cross-link). At the data layer this is a single brand_groups
relationship (one new row) — much smaller change than collapsing
everything into one brand and then trying to surface 3 distinct
retail experiences.
Distribution & business
Changan + Deepal (Changan Auto Southeast Asia Co., Ltd.)
Changan Auto's Thailand entry is structurally distinct from BYD (sole distributor Rêver Automotive), GWM (factory-direct via wholly owned subsidiary), and Aion (federated 4-distributor network). It is closest to the **GWM model — a Changan-owned subsidiary, Changan Auto Southeast Asia Co., Ltd., runs the Thai operation directly. The company is registered at the WHA Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate 4 plant address in Pluak Daeng, Rayong (D&B).
| Layer | Entity | Role |
|---|---|---|
| OEM | Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., Ltd. (China) | Parent |
| SEA HQ | Changan Auto Southeast Asia Co., Ltd. (Thailand) | Distributor, sales, after-sales for Changan + Deepal brands |
| Manufacturing | Changan Auto Manufacturing (Thailand) Co., Ltd. | Operator of Rayong plant |
| Parts | Changan Auto Components (Thailand) Co., Ltd. | Parts + supply chain |
Source: Bangkok Post — auto after-sales sector; Global Changan press.
Avatr (Infinite Automobile Co., Ltd. / AAS Group)
Avatr in Thailand operates under a separate dealership agreement — Infinite Automobile Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of AAS Group (long-established Thai luxury-car dealer, also operates BMW, Mini, Porsche distributorships). This is a deliberate Changan strategy to leverage AAS's premium-segment experience for the Avatr brand rather than route it through the mass-market Changan distribution stack.
- First Avatr showroom opened November 2024 (CnEVPost)
- Rama 3 Flagship Showroom opened November 2025 — ฿120m investment, Thailand's largest Avatr retail space, full service centre starts March 2026 (Bangkok Post — Rama 3; Nation Thailand)
- Showroom network (May 2026): Rama 3 (flagship), Siam Paragon (boutique), Vibhavadi, Kanchanaphisek, Hat Yai, Phuket, Chiang Mai, plus eternity@one independent dealer (Eternity at One)
- Total Avatr footprint: ~8 stand-alone showrooms as of May 2026 (
[unverified — exact count]) - Deliveries: 1,000+ Avatr vehicles delivered in TH by Nov 2025 (Thairath EN)
- AVATR by Infinite Automobile won "highest AVATR sales globally" dealer award in 2025 — confirms strong TH performance (AAS Auto Service)
Showrooms — Changan + Deepal (Changan Auto Southeast Asia)
The Changan TH dealer locator at changan.co.th/en/dealer/ lists ~53 retail locations as of early 2026, vs the original 100-by-end-2025 target. Bulk are in Bangkok metro, Chonburi (EEC), Rayong, Chiang Mai, Hat Yai, Phuket, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Surat Thani. Co-located Changan-brand + Deepal sales (in most showrooms, both brands' models displayed together).

- Avatr: 1,000+ TH deliveries by Nov 2025; AAS / Infinite Automobile won "highest Avatr dealer globally" award 2025
- Motor Expo 2025 bookings (Nov–Dec 2025): Avatr 11 + 07 combined 1,103 pre-bookings; Deepal-brand bookings
